In 2022, the Ella Baker Center welcomed new leadership as Marlene Sanchez became the first formerly incarcerated person to serve as Executive Director. She led EBC in the audacious task of realigning our team and structure to better position us to fight for liberation. From redesigning our values, to merging our Policy and Organizing team, we are shaking up how we do what we do.
Through collective reflection, we have re-envisioned our north star values and, in so doing are deepening our commitment to investing in our community members.
Our team asked: What becomes possible when we work together as a coordinated front, rather than creating silos within our own organization? As a result, we are proud to present our new, united Program Team.
We are organizing our work into three themes, which are interdependent and interrelated.
