As the Director of Finance and Operations at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Deborah’s primary responsibility is providing the support needed to ensure optimal operational efficiency, effectiveness and compliance.
A native New Yorker, Deborah relocated to the Bay Area in 2009. She comes to the organization with many years of experience in the non-profit sector working in Human Services as well as, Economic and Workforce Development supporting finance, human resources and operational functions. Deborah is a Certified Microsoft Office Specialist, and holds a Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in Business and Finance from Medaille College.
As an advocate for social justice and drawing from her own personal experience the impact of mass incarceration has on society, Deborah believes “when there is passion behind the work we do, it fuels us to work for the change we believe is possible”. She is thrilled to work alongside the Ella Baker team who are committed to advancing a more just and equitable society.
Deborah is an alum of the Correctional Association of NY-Women in Prison Project ReCONNECT Advocacy and Leadership Program, an HIV/AIDS Educator/Facilitator as well as, a volunteer with the San Francisco AIDS/Life Cycle and the Prisoner’s Literacy Project in Berkley. In her leisure time she enjoys gardening, hiking, and exploring all that northern California has to offer with her husband.
