Alameda County Administrators Set To Meet with Families Of Incarcerated Youth Regarding Probation Chief Hire

(San Leandro)- Alameda County is currently hiring a new Chief Probation Officer. Families of incarcerated youth will be meeting with County Administrators to call for an opening up of the hiring process for the county probation officer. The meeting will take place Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center, 2500 Fairmont Dr. Room C-1002 San Leandro, CA 94578

The probation chief hire is pivotal to public safety and justice for Alameda County. Probation departments in California are responsible for the administration of almost all criminal sentencing (adult and juvenile) that don't involve state imprisonment.

"With Alameda County facing massive budget shortfalls that threaten our schools and health care, we can't afford a business-as-usual Probation Chief," said Sumayyah Waheed of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, "The right person as Probation Chief could enact policies that actually make our neighborhoods safer and ensure that youth who go to juvenile hall return to their families rehabilitated, not to mention choose more cost-effective approaches to juvenile justice."
