SUMMARY:Alameda County DA Forum
DESCRIPTION:Alameda County District Attorney Virtual Forum\n\n\n \nThursday\, September 29th\, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. \n\n\n \nRegister Here \n\n\n\nJoin us for an Alameda County District Attorney forum – this is a space to share information to help you\, and other voters\, make informed voting decisions.  We do not endorse either candidate.  There will be an opportunity for attendees to submit questions during the forum. \nDo you know your DA?\n\n\n\nThe Office of the District Attorney (D.A) is arguably the most powerful elected position in Alameda County. The state vests enormous authority & prosecutorial discretion into the hands of the elected county D.A.  This office holder can drastically change youth and adult incarceration rates in Alameda County as well as hold law enforcement accountable. \n\n\n\nWith the announced retirement of D.A Nancy O’Malley –  for the first time in 37 years – Alameda County will have an open D.A’s race. Change has been long overdue in our county\, in particular for Black\, Brown and Low Income residents who are overwhelmingly impacted by the priorities and policies of the D.A.  To put things into better perspective\, in 2018\, about 48% of all people sitting in an Alameda County jail were African American\, this despite the fact that African Americans only comprise about 10% of the entire county population. This type of significant racial disparity only further highlights the need for drastic change. Alameda County residents will have an opportunity this year to make their voices heard as they take to the ballot box and vote for change. \n\n\n\nWe want to provide you with as many resources as possible so that you can make an informed decision.

SUMMARY:Mutual Aid Day
DESCRIPTION:Mutual Aid Day: Sunday\, June 6th\, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. \nThis year the Ella Baker Center is partnering with various organizations and hosting a series of in-person mutual aid events across Alameda County. As we know\, the  pandemic has only further exacerbated racial & socio-economic inequalities in our communities. So many of our neighbors are not safe as they face food insecurity and struggle to keep a roof over their head. Despite this clear public health crisis\, Alameda County and certain city governments continue to push a false narrative of public safety. Spending our valuable tax dollars on more police and more jails cells will not keep us safe. We know that we are safe when our needs are met. #WeKeepUsSafe. Here is how you can support our June mutual aid event: \nMutual Aid Day: Sunday\, June 6th\, 11a-2p @ Weekes Park\, 27182 Patrick Ave\, Hayward\, 94544: We will be providing free hot to-go plates\,  PPE\, baby supplies\, back to school supplies\, toiletries\, and more. Spread the word & join us! \n* Want to volunteer with us during mutual-aid events? Sign up here! Contact: Monifa@ellabakercenter.org for more info!

SUMMARY:Donation Drop Off
DESCRIPTION:Mutual Aid Support\nDonation Drive: Tuesday\, June 1st\, 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.\nMutual Aid Day: Sunday\, June 6th\, 11:00 a.m. Here is how you can support our June mutual aid event: \nDonation Drive: Tuesday\, June 1st\, 4p-7:30 pm @ 550 El Embarcadero\, Oakland\, 94610 (Lake Merritt): We will be collecting diapers\, baby wipes\, baby formula\, pet food\, cooking oil.  All donations will be handed out to our community members during mutual aid events \nMutual Aid Day: Sunday\, June 6th\, 11a-2p @ Weekes Park\, 27182 Patrick Ave\, Hayward\, 94544: We will be providing free hot to-go plates\,  PPE\, baby supplies\, back to school supplies\, toiletries\, and more. Spread the word & join us! \n* Want to volunteer with us during mutual-aid events? Sign up here! Contact: Monifa@ellabakercenter.org for more info!

SUMMARY:Love\, Heal\, Transform: One year memorial of the San Quentin COVID19 Outbreak
DESCRIPTION:Love\, Heal\, Transform: One year memorial of the San Quentin COVID19 Outbreak\nSunday May 30th\, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.\nGathering at San Quentin East (Main) Gate \nJoin the interfaith community and loved ones impacted by incarceration in prayer and reflection on the 1st Anniversary of the San Quentin COVID-19 Outbreak\, the largest outbreak in the nation leading to the deaths of 28 people incarcerated inside San Quentin and over 222 deaths in California jails\, prisons and detention centers. This will be a sacred space for grief\, mourning\, healing\, and acknowledgment. They will memorialize lives lost and offer prayers for those still incarcerated and their families\, who continue to live at risk of COVID and other infectious diseases. \nWhile the rest of our society begins to return to “normal”\, we know that “normal” inside prisons means overcrowded settings which continue to put people at high risk of COVID and other infectious diseases. We must not forget those living inside prisons and continue with urgency to save lives and live up to our values of fairness\, accountability and transformation. Our hope is that this memorial vigil which will be filmed will later be shown inside San Quentin\, with the administration’s permission. \n***For those joining in person\, please RSVP here. They will be in contact with you regarding parking\, and other final details. All people joining in person must wear a mask and practice social distancing even if you are vaccinated.
