International Human Rights Day- #StandUp4HumanRIghts + #AuditAhern

Monday, December 10, 2018 (All day)

Human Rights Day is internationally observed on December 10th. This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone United Nations document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being. This historic document is as relevant today as it was 7 decades ago.

In Alameda County, we are taking a stand for human rights by holding the sheriff accountable.

  • Since Sheriff Ahern took office in 2007, there have been a total 90 deaths under his watch.
  • Since Sheriff Ahern took office in 2007, the Alameda County jail population has decreased by nearly half, yet the sheriff’s total budget has nearly doubled to 443 million.
  • Since 2014, 29 women have sued the sheriff alleging abuse and mistreatment.

With a declining jail population, mounting lawsuits,  and a rising death toll, taxpayers deserve to know where every tax dollar is being spent. The sheriffs egregious reign of unaccountability must end now. The time has come for an independent audit! #StandUp4HumanRights  &  #AuditAhern!

Will you help us amplify our call for accountability? On December 10th, join us by taking to social media, and post and share photos using the hashtags #StandUp4HumanRights + #AuditAhern. We will be reposting your social media post throughout the day in honor of Human Rights Day.
