Books Not Bars at the Chowchilla Freedom Rally

We are proud to be a supporter of the Chowchilla Freedom Rally this weekend. The Chowchilla Freedom Rally is just days away and many of us throughout the state of California are getting ready for what will undoubtedly be an empowering and impactful day. Families of incarcerated people and their allies will raise our voices loud enough to let our loved ones inside know they are not alone. Let's make enough noise so that the decision makers in Sacramento have no choice but to hear our demands!

To join a caravan leaving from Oakland or Los Angeles contact or 415-255-7036 x 314Caravans leaving from MacArthur BART in Oakland at 10:30AM and Chuco's Justice Center in Inglewood at 8:30AM. We will gather at 2PM at SE corner of Ave. 24 and Fairmead Blvd off Highway 99 in Chowchilla.

Rally begins at 3PM at Valley State Prison.
March* to Central California Women's Facility for speak-out & press conference.
*We will march for less than 1 mile. Accessibility vans are available for folks who need them.

Books Not Bars leader and 2011 Van Jones Scholarship Winner Joaquin Diaz DeLeon will be representing the Ella Baker Center and shared: I'm going in solidarity to support incarcerated women and their loved ones. As someone with personal experience with how wasteful and abusive California prisons are, I feel I have to be a part of this in order to protest along side brave people fighting for equal justice.
