Ashley Chambers

Communications Associate

Ashley Chambers is the Communications Associate at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. In this role, she manages media relations and executes communications strategies for local, statewide and national campaigns to elevate the work of the Ella Baker Center.

A native of Oakland, California, proud mother and former journalist, Ashley has a passion for lifting up her community and helping people of color gain access to social, educational and economic opportunity. Prior to joining the Ella Baker Center, Ashley managed communications for the California Housing Partnership where she led marketing campaigns to build and preserve affordable housing in California for residents living in low-income communities. She previously worked with the Oakland Private Industry Council serving unemployed residents of Oakland. Her background in journalism started with the Oakland Post newspapers where she devoted her work to covering issues around rent control, criminal justice reform, Oakland politics and community activism.

Ashley studied at the University of California, Berkeley earning her B.A. in Sociology. As the daughter of community activists, Ashley is a passionate storyteller and is dedicated to using her voice to advance social justice in today’s society.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, enjoying the art culture that the Bay has to offer, traveling and writing poetry.
