The Ella Baker Center's Statement on the Darren Wilson Grand Jury Decision

On November 24th, the grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri failed to indict Darren Wilson for the killing of Mike Brown on August 9th. The following is Ella Baker Center Executive Director Zachary Norris' statement on the grand jury's decision, and how we should move forward:

"Yesterday we learned that there has been no indictment for Darren Wilson, which means that justice has not been served for Mike Brown.

For all black people, this decision shows that our country's long history of not holding the perpetrators of racialized violence accountable is far from over. What is even more disturbing is Governor Jay Nixon calling in the National Guard in preparation for the decision. Instead of putting resources towards supporting those who have suffered, people in power continue to respond with punishment and militarization.

We continue to be inspired by the strength of our allies on the ground in Ferguson and support their efforts to end racial injustice and police brutality. We will continue our fight against mass criminalization and mass incarceration by advocating for more resources to be put towards education, job creation and training, and healthcare.

We need to support Mike Brown's family by building a unified movement, rooted in human rights, to end the criminalization of black people in particular and people of color as a whole that led to his death."
