(Oakland, Ca)- Families will join teachers and community activists to rally calling for a fair and equitable city budget that puts children and families first in Oakland The Ella Baker Center sponsored rally will be taking place at the steps of Oakland City Hall Tuesday, June 21, 2011 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

The City of Oakland is facing a $58 million budget deficit. Lack of a fair budget solution will see an Oakland with deep cuts across the board to the important services that families throughout Oakland deeply rely on.

“Fixing the budget problem requires both short and long-term solutions, we call on the City of Oakland to pass a fair and equitable budget that prioritizes quality-of-life services that keep our city safe and healthy,” said Nwamaka Agbo of the Ella Baker Center, “All city departments must take responsibility for making the necessary sacrifices to close the budget gap.”

The Ella Baker Center has launched an online action petitioning Oakland City Council to prioritize children, families and seniors as they address the budget crisis.
