A nuanced take on juvenile justice
The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights premiered this movie a couple weeks ago and it's now available online. It's a fascinating look into a transformation that's going on, mostly on the local level, to make the juvenile justice system more of an opportunity for change than a pipeline to prison. Santa Clara is one of the counties that's embraced this "Missouri Model" and the filmmakers interview staff and participants in the program there. You rarely hear kids and workers inside a justice system describe it in glowing terms, so the movie is worth watching, at the very least, for that novelty.
