On Monday, the Governor released his updated budget for California. He made some changes, but one thing stayed the same: while services and health care got slashed, prisons got a boost. A $145 million boost.
What kind of priorities are those?
My godson has spent 8 years in DJJ and it’s been a living hell. Because his mother passed away, I am his main support. He frequently tells me that he is “just trying to survive.” There have been countless fights.
Where do I begin? That’s the question that I keep asking myself when I’m asked how the DJJ formally known as the California Youth Authority has affected my life and most importantly my son’s life.
I'm not opposed to unions advocating on behalf of their members, whether those members work in the private or public sector. Everyone should have the right to collectively bargain for better working conditions, more security and fair compensation.
Today is Governor Jerry Brown's 100th day in office. To mark this occasion (and taking a step back from the seemingly endless budget wars), he is signing into law today a historic bill that will promote California's clean energy economy and create green-collar jobs.
