Bike to Work w/ Warren
Warren G and his homemade ride were one of hundreds who celebrated Bike to Work Day at the Bike Away from Work Party hosted by allies Walk Oakland Bike Oakland and the East Bay Bicycle Coalition. As a regular bike commuter who honors Bike to Work Day five days a week, I look forward to this day all year. Not only does it raise awareness of the health and environmental benefits of people-powered commuting, but it's yet another way of building community and solidarity with each other.

In recent months, we have seen an upsurge in online social media contests promising tens of thousands of dollars to organizations that get the most votes or donations, such as Pepsi Refresh, America’s Giving Challenge and eBay’s Humanity Calls. While “grappling” maybe too strong a word, we have been grappling with whether these contests are worth staff time and effort, especially given a questionable return.
