Winning Liberated Futures Through Collective Power
Our namesake Ella Baker believed in the power of every day people to make change. A brilliant, bold hero of the civil rights movement, Ella Baker engaged communities to create solutions to address injustice.
In that spirit, we support the formation of a union at the Ella Baker Center, and are eager to continue to work together as a team to advance our mission of shifting resources away from prisons and punishment and towards opportunities that make our communities safe, healthy, and strong.
At the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, we build upon Ella Baker’s legacy in all of our work by lifting up voices from the communities who have been harmed by the systems we seek to transform. Each of our people-powered campaigns roots its demands in the needs of the community because we believe that people who have been directly impacted by incarceration have the solutions we need to make our communities safer and healthier. We see the way that unions allow workers to continue to build their collective power as another strong celebration of Miss Baker's legacy.
As an organization with a long history of standing up for workers’ rights and economic justice, we are always eager to strengthen our organization and explore new tactics and strategies to win liberated futures for us all.
