This year’s Heal The Streets cohort continues to put solutions for violence in the hands of the young people in Oakland. Each year the fellows conduct a Participatory Action Research project.
With two weeks left before the run—yes, two weeks!!—I bring to you another of our amazing members of Team Ella Baker Center, Eric Fuller II. I found Eric’s perspective on fitness as being about playfulness and having fun quite refreshing, and a shift from what most mainstream sources tell us about why and how we should exercise. I’ll let him introduce himself here, and share with you his views on the ongoing importance of fitness and movement in his daily life.
Happy International Women’s Day! Today, I am reflecting on the women in my life who have paved the way so that I reach my potential, live out my dreams and conquer spaces unknown to them.
On March 7th, 1965, 600 activists for civil rights and freedom began a march from Selma, AL to Montgomery. Today, on March 7th, 2012, thousands of freedom fighters are marching again in Alabama.

Dear California Students: The Governor and State Legislature thank you for your support for one of the largest prison systems in the world.
On January 27, 2012 I got off work and drove like a maniac to Laney College where I ran my out-of-shape self from the parking lot all the way to the B building room 247. I tumbled into that classroom completely out of breath with beads of salty liquids dripping and shamelessly proud. I would be the newest member of this beautiful class. I could already blissfully taste the enlightenment.
