Projet En Vue

Projet En Vue, a fresh cultural project in Oakland, is writing a book featuring fifty portraits of Oakland residents in an attempt to evolve and re-define the media’s negative perception of Oakland. The goal of Projet En Vue is to positively influence the reputation of Oakland by painting a tapestry of the city as they see it: a vibrant and diverse community. We hope that our book will fully illuminate and humanize the individuals Oaklanders pass by every day, foster a sense of pride within their community, and dispel the pervasive stereotypes that undermine true community involvement. You can find out more on Projet En Vue’s website

Projet En Vue is a not-for-profit organization, and in order to meet the cost of self-publishing their book we have created a campaign on Kickstarter. To cover publishing costs, we need to raise $3000 by May 30. The book will be printed locally, using soy-based inks and recycled paper, in order to stay true to Projet En Vue’s mission of sustainability. If we are successful in reaching our funding goal, 25% of the proceeds from the book will be donated to the Ella Baker Center, an organization committed to unlocking the power of low-income people, people of color, and their allies through organizing, leadership development, and advocacy.

You can donate to the project’s Kickstarter campaign here. If you are a business, foundation, or non-profit, you can be one of the book’s sponsors. Send an email to projetenvue@gmail.com for more information about sponsorship. If you are unable to offer financial support, please share our Kickstarter video on your social networks to allow them to reach even more people.

If you are interested, you can also find them on Facebook and Tumblr.
