What the Frack?!?

Say it..... f.r.a.c.k.i.n.g. Doesn't it just sound dirty - and not in a good way?

Why does it sound dirty? Because it is.

Ready for fracking 101?

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, uses water laced with poisonous chemicals to blast the gas out of rocks. Using bomb like pressure, fracking launches about 7 million gallons of poisonous water into a mile deep well to break into rocks and out comes methane gas. Along with the gas comes radioactive funk that causes cancer.

We can thank fracking for air pollution, poisoning our water and possibly even earthquakes.

Needless to say, fracking is f*ed.

I had heard about fracking in the United States. What I didn't know until today is that, according to a team of investigators, unregulated fracking has been happening in California in at least six counties for 60 or more years!

What the frack?!

I was born and raised in this golden state and I'm proud of California. I'm proud of living in the state that leads the country in environmental protections, green tech investment and green jobs. So when Halliburton is fracking in my backyard, I take it personally.

A few safety words for my fracking friends:

  1. Stop!
  2. Stop now!
  3. Really stop!!!

Supporters of fracking say we need the methane gas. I'm pretty sure that we can not poison, blast or frack our way to energy freedom. What I do know, is that investing in clean, green energy that creates jobs is what is truly best for people and the planet.

When Halliburton comes to a county near you, tell them to get the frack outta here.
