Honoring the Freedom Rides
Last Wednesday was one of those evenings I will never forget for the rest of my life. On May 11, 2011 I had the honor of watching an exclusive preview of the new PBS documentary “Freedom Riders” at a free event in Oakland, California co hosted by KQED and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. After the moving 1-hour preview, we were treated to a dynamic panel discussion featuring many of today's most prominent civil rights leaders. Dr. Etta Simpson Ray, one of the original Freedom Riders, was joined by Michael Orange of Top Ten Social, James Rucker of Color of Change, our Executive Director Jakada Imani, and Danny, a Heal the Streets Youth fellow.
Check out photos from the event below, and visit the "Freedom Riders" page to find out when PBS is showing the film in your area.
