Seven Oakland residents have sued the city of Oakland claiming that police officers improperly strip-searched them on city streets. There is a federal suit asking for $5 million and an end to the practice, because people have been humiliated and their civil rights have been violated.

In Colorado, the state legislature passed laws that would require immigrants to obtain state identification in order to receive any government services. In addition they passed a law that allows the police to check the immigration status of any immigrant. These measures have forced documented and undocumented farm workers out of the state, leaving the Colorado's agriculture industry in shambles. The laws that were supposed to save the state millions will actually cost the state millions in less than a year.

Have you ever noticed that when you voice an opinion about an issue that is highly controversial, people will either applaud you or try to tear you down? This occurs when people find an element in your words that they can relate to, which validates and enables that person to feel good about themselves, or when they have found an element in your words which highlights the very traits in themselves which they are deeply ashamed of.
